Part-Time Compliance Officer - Assessors' Office
This is a part-time position without benefits. This position is responsible for reviewing and auditing business and personal property accounts to ensure fair and equitable taxation in compliance with State law through discovery and data verification.
Major duties include but are not limited to:
1. Performs audits for cause and audits of randomly selected personal property accounts to ensure compliance with Department of Revenue reporting requirements.
2. Conducts reviews by comparing taxpayers’ personal property returns to financial records provided by the taxpayer and to data gathered during field inspections to identify potential under-reporting, non-filing, or clerical errors.
3. Applies appropriate depreciation schedules as prescribed by the State and utilizes valuation models to determine fair market value of business assets.
4. Conducts on-site inspections of property at business locations to verify age and condition of assets; utilizes additional data sources to identify unreported or under-reported property.
5. Meets with property owners, CPAs, tax representatives, and other parties to discuss audit findings and resolve discrepancies.
6. Prepares for and represents the County in appeals before the Board of Equalization and other appeal hearings.
7. Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Baccalaureate degree required.
• More than five years of related work experience required.
• Any equivalent combination of education and experience to meet the above stated responsibilities.
• Georgia Department of Revenue Appraiser II certification or higher required.
• Continuing education to maintain certification required.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle operated.
SALARY
Starting Salary - $31.02 Hourly
