Job Summary
The Store Manager will provide leadership and direction to the store team, ensuring a
positive staff, volunteer, customer, and donor experience. Promotes a culture of charity and service among staff, customers, donors, and volunteers. The Store Manager will be responsible for the thrift store operations, staff, and volunteers within the store. They organize, direct, plan, and coordinate operations. This includes problem-solving, decision-making, and delegation. Strong employee development and communication skills, both oral and written. He/she must embrace CLT’s core values of Community, Leadership, and Teamwork.

 
Responsibilities
            Thrift Store Operations:

  • Plan and direct the day-to-day operations of the store.
  • Ensure all products and displays are merchandised effectively to maximize sales and profitability.
  • Execute strategies to improve customer service, drive store sales, and increase profitability.
  • Ensure customer needs are met, complaints are resolved, and service is quick and efficient.
  • Monitor donation flow within the store to maximize sales and enhance processes.
  • Oversee management of excess donations, resale of unsellable donations.
  • Ensure all policies & procedures regarding store operations and employment policies are disseminated and followed.
  • Protect employees and customers by ensuring a safe and clean store environment.
  • Make suggestions to the Executive Director regarding store improvement opportunities.
  • Manage the acquisition of wholesale purchases.
Financial Acumen:
  • Achieve financial objectives assigned by the Executive Director, including initiating corrective actions.
  • Assist Executive Director in preparing an annual operational budget.
  • Formulate pricing policies by reviewing merchandising activities, studying trends, determining additional needed sales promotions, and authorizing clearance sales.
 
Employee Management and Development:
  • Determine store staffing needs, develop monthly store staff schedule, and determine volunteer requirements to supplement staff.
  • Review store staff timesheets and submit them to the Administrative Manager bi-weekly for processing.
  • Ensure volunteer workers, community service workers, and special needs volunteers are effectively optimized within the store.
  • Formulate appropriate store staffing levels by effective and efficient orientation, training and development, and oversight of employees.
  • Maintains maximum store staff job performance results by regularly encouraging, recognizing achievements, coaching, counseling, and proactively managing performance.
  • Carry out performance reviews and professional development processes for store staff.
  • Maintain store staff job descriptions in coordination with Executive Director and Administrative Manager.
Miscellaneous:
  • Identifies current and future customer and donor requirements by establishing rapport with potential and actual customers and donors and encouraging interaction with CLT (Clothes Less Traveled).
  • Promote positive relationships across the entire organization including media, volunteer recruitment, executive leadership, and Board of Directors.
  • Performs special projects and handles other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Organizational Management, or similar degree preferred
  • 10+ years in progressive relevant experience
  • Well-developed communications skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a busy environment
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint is essential
  • Exhibits discretion, flexibility, and willingness to work closely with the management team and Board of Directors
