2025 Business Power Hour (Apr) - Hartsfield-Jackson Economic Impact

Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport plays a crucial role as a major employer for residents of Fayette County and a significant economic catalyst for both the Atlanta region and the state. On April 3, the Fayette Chamber's Business Power Hour will feature Interim Airport CEO Jan Lennon as the speaker. Ms. Lennon will discuss key subjects including:

Jan Lennon

Interim Airport General Manager

As leader of the world’s busiest and most efficient airport, Jan Lennon oversees all facets of Airport governance, including operations and a multibillion-dollar capital improvement program designed to pave the way for Atlanta’s growth over the next 20 years.

Ms. Lennon has more than 25 years of leadership in public safety and security, crisis management, and corrections. She spearheaded many innovative and successful public safety and security and operations programs at the Airport, most notably having created a comprehensive program to mitigate and reduce insider threats across the Airport complex. She also developed and launched the Department of Aviation’s first human trafficking awareness campaign.

Before becoming the interim Airport general manager, Ms. Lennon served as the Airport’s deputy general manager of Operations. She led the Department of Aviation ‘s operations, public safety and security, fire, and police (Airport sections), transportation, traffic enforcement, emergency management, facility maintenance, and business services divisions.

Ms. Lennon oversaw day-to-day operations and regulatory compliance to ensure the safe and secure movements of about 280,000 passengers and 2,700 aircraft operations each day.  Additionally, she was responsible for developing and implementing the Department of Aviation’s emergency response plans.

Formerly she served as deputy security director beginning in 2002.  In May 2011, she was promoted to security director.  In this role, Ms. Lennon led the team responsible for protecting and managing the Airport security program – a comprehensive security approach that includes risk-based security, compliance and enforcement, inspections, access control, security services, physical security, contract management, surveillance, employee screening, smart security initiatives and risk-mitigation solutions.

Ms. Lennon currently serves on the Transportation Security Administration’s Aviation Security Advisory Sub-Committee and is active in the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) and Airport Council International (ACI). She is also designated as an International Airport Professional, having received IAP certification, promoting professional excellence in airport management. She has received awards for distinguished service from AAAE, Atlanta Business League, and the Atlanta Tribune.

Before joining the Department of Aviation, she had a successful career in corrections, including a tour of duty as a deputy warden at a regional jail in Virginia. A graduate of North Carolina Central and Coppin State universities, Ms. Lennon holds a Bachelor of Arts in criminal justice and a Master of Science in criminal justice/security administration.
