The Clayton County Community Services Authority, Inc.’s Board is seeking to appoint two new members to ensure we have the capacity and skills to oversee the next phase of our work. The roles are unpaid voluntary positions.  Board members are expected to attend monthly meetings, provide mission based leadership and participate in the life of the organization by being an ambassador for our institution.  It is important that each candidate has a passion for working with the economically disadvantage, has willingness to serve with integrity and a willingness to work collaboratively with the board chairman and all others.

About the Role

We are seeking to recruit a number of board members, and expect that different candidates will bring a range of professional skills and expertise to Clayton County Community Services Authority, Inc. We specifically need people in the fields of Finance and Law; however, we welcome elected public officials; civic, church, labor and business members; and representatives from the community at large.  The Board of Directors are legally and ethically responsible for all activities of the organization.  To that end it:

  1. Determines how the organization will carry out the mission through long and short-range planning

  2. Adopts an annual budget and provides fiscal oversight

  3. Recruits others to support the mission through service and funding

  4. Hires and evaluates the performance of the Executive Director

  5. Establishes policies for the effective management of the organization



  • Understand and promote the organization’s mission

  • Be familiar with the organization’s programs, policies, and operations

  • Attend board meetings and appropriate committee meetings

  • Actively serve on at least one committee and offer to take on special assignments

  • Review agenda and supporting documents prior to meetings

  • Participate in fund raising activities and special events

  • Keep current on county-wide issues and developments in program areas

  • Strictly adhere to conflict of interest policies and to confidentiality policies


Time Demands (approximate)

  • Attend and actively participate in at least 75% of board meetings (10 to 11 monthly board meetings, approximately 2 hours in length, on the 4thTuesday of the month, except December)

  • Attend and actively participate in committee meetings and related work as determined by the committee

  • Attend and actively participate in the annual training

  • Attend special events opportunities such as fundraisers, and monitoring reviews

  • Meet with potential donors/funders to make a case for funding the organization, answer questions, etc.
